Steamed Mushroom Buns

Day 25

Hmmm...Steamed Mushroom Buns look very much like Mushroom Dim Sum. hehehe

You guessed it - leftover night. Not so much fun for the blog, but much more fun for people who don't have to prepare supper.

Steamed Mushroom Buns

Leftovers

Does everyone else eat the same thing for dinner two nights in a row as much as we do? I think part of the problem is that it's hard to cook for two. Recipes always make so much. And even if you try downsizing your recipe, there will be leftover ingredients that you will have to find a way to use anyway. Besides, leftovers are awesome, right? I mean, as long as you're making meals that you love anyway, you're probably okay with eating it twice, and besides that, a lot of things are even better on Day 2. And the very best thing about leftovers is absence of or much shorter prep time. I love that.

Re-steaming Dim Sum

The dim sum was steamed last night so they were already cooked. We made a dozen and had three each last night and the other half dozen tonight. We decided to just throw them into the steamer again and they turned out the same as last night after the first steaming; really no difference.

In the photo, you can tell these photos were taken tonight because the sesame seeds are already on them.

Fried Wontons & Hummus

Since there is nothing new for supper (other than learning that dim sum can be re-steamed and tastes as fantastic as the first time), I thought I would share with you a little snack that I made.

Hummus

We (and by "we" I mean "Laura") usually make our own hummus. In fact, this might be the first time we've ever bought it already made from the grocery store, although we've had it at other places - which is why we make our own at home. That will be a recipe for another day - maybe even this weekend. But, this hummus was on sale (2 for 5.00) so I grabbed it, with the last 5 eggroll wrappers in our fridge in mind.

Fried Wraps

So, for these, it's literally just eggroll wraps cut into triangles so you can get 8 chips per wrap. So, I guess I got 40 chips from these last 5. Here is a series of photos to show you the whole, incredibly simple, process.

  5 eggroll wraps

 Wraps cut into quarters

 Wraps quartered and stacked

 Getting ready to fry

 Chips frying

 Bowl of chips

Hummus and chip

Not bad. Tasty and very cheap snack. At $2.50 for the dip and about $0.50 for the wrappers, and another $0.50 for the oil, it's a good sized snack at $3.50. Next time I will lower the temperature though, so they will be more golden. I sprinkled them with a bit of sea salt, but they're pretty good unsalted as well, if you're watching your intake more carefully.

Reviews/Comments

The re-steamed dim sum was amazing again. I recommend you make some tonight, if possible :)
